March is Women’s History Month and to celebrate, Farallon is honored to highlight the achievements, opportunities, and challenges that our female staff have encountered in their careers.
Here are some interesting facts about women in the workforce and, specifically, women in STEM:
- In 2019, women received 57% of all bachelor’s degrees and 54% of doctoral degrees.
- In 2016, 36% of STEM degrees were awarded to women.
- Only 6% of Engineering News-Record’s Top 200 Environmental Firms have a woman CEO (Farallon’s CEO is one!)
- Five out of 10 of Farallon’s senior leadership and operations team are women.
1981
Women’s History Month had its origins as a national celebration in 1981 when Congress passed Pub. L. 97-28, which authorized and requested the President to proclaim the week beginning March 7, 1982 as “Women’s History Week.”
1995
Since 1995, presidents have issued a series of annual proclamations designating the month of March as “Women’s History Month.”
2021
The Women’s History Month theme for 2021 is “Valiant Women of the Vote: Refusing to Be Silenced.”
