Farallon is assisting the Washington State Department of Ecology in evaluating state cleanup sites and landfills that may be vulnerable to climate change impacts such as sea level rise, wildfires, flooding, and landslides. Recent conferences and agency policies have demonstrated a new federal- and state-level emphasis on incorporating green remediation technologies into cleanups, and considering potential climate change effects in monitoring plans. In addition to their environmental benefits, green remediation approaches can be more cost-effective than traditional technologies by reducing energy and maintenance costs.
