Excavation Observation with NFA Determination

FARALLON ASSISTS CLIENT IN OBTAINING A NO FURTHER ACTION DETERMINATION DURING PROPERTY REDEVELOPMENT

Farallon was engaged by an established client to perform environmental due diligence at a property in downtown Seattle.

During the Phase II subsurface investigation at the property, Farallon identified shallow areas impacted by petroleum and/or historical fill material. Farallon subsequently completed a site characterization to prepare for a remedial excavation during property development activities.

Farallon's preparations for the remedial excavation allowed for a permanent solution that was in accordance with Washington State Model Toxics Control Act Cleanup Regulation requirements and allowed the client to apply for a No Further Action determination without delay.

During the remedial excavation, a previously unknown underground storage tank was uncovered at the property. Farallon relied on extensive previous experience to quickly provide additional support for sampling and tank closure documentation. When low concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons were detected soil underneath the tank, Farallon coordinated with the excavation contractor to remove the additional soil. Farallon's adaptive and coordinated response enabled the property development schedule to stay on track.

"Integrating our client's plans for the property with the remedial excavation allowed for an effective, timely solution," said Suzy Stumpf, Senior Design Engineer. "We were fully equipped to overcome unexpected challenges and deliver site closure."
